Year 2 Parents FAQ

Year 2 Parents FAQ's

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am delighted that your child will be starting at Droxford Junior School on Monday 4th September 2023.

Our staff are committed to working with parents to support and challenge the children to achieve their best.  In order to establish an effective partnership the following induction programme has been arranged for you and your child.

Tuesday 13th June 1.15pm – 2.30pm

Fun sports afternoon

Year 2 parents bring their children to Droxford Junior School for a fun sports afternoon. This will help them to become familiar with the school and they will get to know staff and other children as they rotate around different activities. They will need to arrive in their PE kit with a bottle of water.  Parents will need to drop their child off at the school reception and collect them at 2.30pm from the quiet area (the central courtyard outside the school hall).

Getting to know the school

Whilst the children are enjoying their activities Year 2 parents will meet the administration team in the hall.  They will talk through routines, transport arrangements, school uniform (a dressed mannequin will also be in School) and any questions you may have.  Year 6 children will give guided tours during the afternoon.  (Parents with children already at Droxford Junior School are most welcome to stay but you may feel you know enough about the school already!)  A representative from FODS (Friends of Droxford School) will outline the valuable contribution parents make to the school community.

Wednesday 28th June 6 –7 pm Year 2 Parent’s Curriculum Evening

An overview of the curriculum in school and homework will give you an understanding of what and how your child will be learning. You will have an opportunity to meet the teachers and find out which learning base your child will be working in.  A representative from the governing body will outline their role.

On 6/8th June, staff from Droxford Junior School will visit your child’s school (Meonstoke and Newtown Soberton Infant Schools respectively). This will enable them to find out about the children who will be transferring in September.  On the evening please inform us of any specific information relating to your child that you feel we should know.

Thursday 6th July 9.15am – 2.30 pm   New Learning Base Day

Most Year 6 children will be visiting Swanmore College on this day. This enables all the other children to work in their new learning bases with their teachers. Your child will need to be in their infant school uniform and bring a packed lunch.  If you would like your child to have a school dinner please fill in the reply slip below and return to the Droxford school office on or before 23rd May.  Please collect them from the quiet area (weather permitting) or hall at 2.30pm.

Skoolkit will have a mannequin set up during our “getting to know the school” day on 13th June from 12.30pm-4pm with samples of our uniform for you to view and/or order.  There will also be a sample uniform in school for the Year 2 Parent’s evening on Wednesday 28th June.  Alternatively you can order online or visit their shop in Fareham.

Thursday 7th September  10.45 am –12.30 pm  Open Morning

There will be an open morning for you to visit your child working in school.  They will be able to share their work and give you a tour of their new school! This is a chance for you to ask further questions once they are actually in action!  You are also welcome to enjoy lunch with your child. (You can bring your own packed lunch but I would recommend you sample a school dinner!) There will then be a parents evening in October where you will be given specific learning targets for your child.

Please visit the school website at www.droxfordjunior.co.uk.  for lots of information and advice. If you do have a query in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please return the reply slip to us on or before 23rd May indicating which of these events you are able to attend. Alternatively you can reply via email to adminoffice@droxford.hants.sch.uk please write “Induction 2023” in the subject line.

Finally I would personally like to welcome you and look forward to meeting you. Together we can make Droxford Junior School outstanding for your child.
